Will taking Methadone make me sick?

Methadone will not interfere with the normal functioning of your internal organs and will not bring on any type of illness. If your dose is too low you may start to feel withdrawal symptoms. This is not the Methadone making you “sick” but your body responding to a lack of opioids in your system. If this happens inform your doctor and they will adjust your dose upwards.

Will Methadone damage my teeth?

One of the side effects of Methadone is dry mouth. This can cause a buildup of plaque on your teeth, which can cause gum disease or tooth decay. Counteract this by brushing your teeth, flossing, using mouthwash, and drinking water.

Is it true that Methadone rots your bones?

If you’re on Methadone and your dose is too low to cover your withdrawal symptoms you may feel like your bones are aching. Inform your doctor and they will adjust your dose upwards and the aching will go away.

Will Methadone make me gain weight?

Many addictive drugs suppress the appetite. Once you are on Methadone your health and appetite will improve and weight gain is normal. Methadone can cause water retention and can slow your metabolism. Eating healthy foods will ensure a healthy body weight.
